I used to be tougher...

...when my kids were small and they offered a sincere, big-eyed plea for a

puppy
kitten
bunny
fish
turtle
ferret
pot bellied pig
chinchilla

etc.

I was usually able to say no.

Even when they promised to

feed
walk
water
clean up after
love
cherish
and die if they couldn't have it

etc.

I was still usually able to say no.

At least for awhile.

And then, eventually, they would catch me at an off moment...

You know...

...like when I was trying to clean my house for company, bake a five course meal, unplug the toilet AND get clothes off the clothesline before it rained.

And then they'd pounce.

And I'd end up saying, "Mmmm...sure...yeah...ummm....that'll be fine."

And they would end up with one or more of the aforementioned animals.

Sigh.

It took a much shorter time for my big-eyed Grandlittle to convince me.

"Grandma, can you take care of my pet store?"

Pet.  STORE?

"Ummm...huh?"  I replied.

"You know?  My pet store app.   All you have to do is feed the pets and then you will get points for me and I will be able to buy more pets."

"Ummmm...huh?" I asked again.

"Here!  It's easy!  I'll show you!"

So she did.

There was no poo or pee or walking or whimpering involved.

So I did it.

Yeah.

I am a wonderful Grandma.

This was about a week ago.

The point that my Grandlittle neglected to inform me of is that

YOU GET STINKIN' ADDICTED TO FEEDING THESE VIRTUAL PETS.

And then you get sucked into other peoples VIRTUAL PET SHOPS!

And then you start sneaking your phone in the bathroom because your husband rolls his eyes at you.

And he totally doesn't understand that if I can only get another 5,000 points I can get a spooky Halloween tree to decorate my Pet Shop.

Oh yeah.

This is MY Pet Shop now.

I told the Grandlittle to go get her own.

Seriously.

I'm a little bit worried about what might happen if I break my thumbs, though.

I'm wondering if I can get someone to promise to:

feed
love
cherish
visit my friends shop
take all my requests for help
and keep everything up and running perfectly.

After all!

I might die if I couldn't do it!

Virtual pets!

Who knew there was so much pressure!

Double, triple and quadruple

Sigh...

Oh yes, I get it, Jenny, and I'll take care of your Pet Shop for you if you break or sprain your thumbs.

No, I stay away from those things!!!! I had three farms, a fish tank, a pirate cat and a mafia mob going at one time. Quit. Cold Turkey.

LOL! That is so cute! The kiddos do love the pet apps. And the adults love them too, for sure!

Jenny, anything electronic these days tends to hook. Unless you can resist. Ahhh! But you never could resist the odd puppy and kitten, could you!! Good. Liz

hahaha!!!! ok...so we have lived through the pleas for a puppy and given in and gotten puppies...but we have yet to get pulled into the virtual pet world!

(but I can relate with my hubby rolling his eyes at me...as I play one more round of Ruzzle on my cell phone!)

Blessings & Aloha!!!

It's Pet Shop Anonymous for you, my friend. And will you take my daughter with you? I'm afraid she has succumbed as well.

Great and funny post Jenny!

Ooooh, this is so genius! Instead of getting my kids a real live pet that they so desperately want, I can get them a whole pet store! And then not have to clean up or feed, or anything to worry about. You are so smart!

I guess I will have to wait and see what happens when I have my own. smiles.
